Local parks often have playgrounds, dog off-leash areas, BBQ facilities and even gym equipment.
Nowadays there is a new way to enjoy your local park, yes, it is outdoor table tennis.
There are outdoor table tennis tables across Brisbane. You will need to bring your own table tennis paddle and balls.
Here is where you can find an outdoor table tennis court in your neighbourhood.
Windsor
The closest outdoor table tennis table to the Brisbane Table Tennis club in Windsor is actually right next door in Downey Park. Access this park via 50 Noble Street.
Graceville
You can also play at the Graceville Riverside Parklands at the Simpsons Playground. Access the park via 242 Graceville Avenue.
Sunnybank
In Sunnybank you can play in Yimbun Park. Access Yimbun park via 459 McCullough Street. There's also a electric BBQ, a Basketball half-court and a dog off-leash area. Plus there is a picnic area and playground.
Parkinson
Live on the south-side of Brisbane? There is another outdoor table at Greenway Esplanade Park in Parkinson. Like many Brisbane parks like this one have an electric BBQ and playground. But this park also has a BMX track, cricket practice net and a basketball half-court.
What's not to like?
Access this Parkinson park via 30 Greenways Esplanade.
One of the things that is great about Brisbane is that there are parks everywhere. At the bottom of Kangaroo Point Cliffs is a park known as Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park (River Terrace Park).
This park has an outdoor table tennis table. It's a table with a lovely river and city view! It is also the HQ of the "Naval Store" (Riverlife Adventure Centre). Not only does it have a boat ramp, climbing precinct and ferry terminal you can also book in, for a fee, to play laser tag.
Access this park via 29 River Terrace.
Fitzgibbon
There are also table tennis facilities at Kuringgai Park in Fitzgibbon. Access Kuringgai Park via 14 Mount Kaputar Avenue.
.
Ascot
You might be surprised that in the ritzy suburb of Ascot you can also find a table tennis table in the grand outdoors. This park has electric barbecues, a fully fenced playground and its own Wi-fi.
Yes, Oriel Park in Ascot has a swanky outdoor table tennis table. Access this court via 14 Alexandra Road.
West End
Close to the city but not short on green space you'll find the suburb of West End.
In West End, it's most famous park is Orleigh Park. And in Orleigh Park you'll find an outdoor table tennis table or two!
This park has the obligatory BBQ and boat ramp (yes it's another park right on the river).
Plus you will find an outdoor gym and playground, rowing and sail clubs and, yes it's own Wi-Fi.
But I found the people in this West End to be really friendly. Access the park via 68 Hill End Terrace.
On the northside of Brissy is Teralba Park in Everton Park. Terabla Park has a lot to offer. Apart from the Table Tennis tables it has a BBQ, basketball half-court, bikeway, BMX facility and dog off-leash area. It also has a cultural heritage site. There is also an outdoor gym and picnic shelter. Oh yes, and don't forget the wi-fi.
Lutwyche
Not far from the Brisbane Table Tennis club there's W.A. Jolly Park. It is in Lutwyche.
This park has a rebound wall and a picnic area and playground. And, of course, it has a wonderful outdoor table tennis table.
Kelvin Grove
Also added to the list is the E.E. McCaskie Oval in Kelvin Grove.
As well as a BBQ and outdoor gym there is also a picnic area and playground. Access the Kelvin Grove outdoor table tennis table via 137 Kelvin Grove Road.
St Lucia
One of my favourite parks in Brisbane! Guyatt Park is in Saint Lucia.
This St. Lucia park has electric BBQ, outdoor gym, and playground.
Not only that, it has it's on wi-fi. Plus it set on the banks of the Brisbane River. So there is a ferry terminal right there. Better still, it has its own ninja warrior course. So after your table tennis game you can express your inner warrior.
Murrumba Downs
Further north, not actually in Brisbane, but in the Moreton Bay council area is Blatchford sporting and recreation reserve. This park has an outdoor table tennis table. Access the area via Goodfellows Road.
The newest park to add outdoor table tennis is the Jindalee Boat Ramp park.
This park also has an electric BBQ, boat ramp, car park, dog off-leash area (with drinking fountain and dog bowl), picnic area, playground, toilet, and a water fountain (disabled access bubbler).
Thank you to Gayle, club member for the heads up!
When you play in the park, on an outdoor table tennis table, you will need to bring your own table tennis bat and balls.
Local Councillor Angela Owen said "The outdoor table tennis table is a great addition to the Greenways Esplanade Park and is the next stage in promoting an active and healthy lifestyle in this location." She said the aim was to "get people active and moving in their local parks ahead of the Commonwealth Games."
